Currently a student at Diocesan Girls’ School, 15-year-old Chloe Chan Ka Yee has been learning violin from Ms Feng Jia since she was 8 and has attained Trinity LTCL Violin diploma as well as Trinity LTCL Viola diploma under the tutelage of Johnny Ng Ting Kwong.
Chloe has actively participated in many international and local music competitions, she has achieved awards from the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, including champion in violin solo with the score of 97 in the 73rd Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, in which she was also awarded the Grantham Music Award, and previously, second place in violin solo with the score of 96 and champion in violin duet. She was also the champion in the Wien International Youth Musicians Music Competition, in which she achieved a perfect score from Prof. Konstantin Weitz, the champion of the Strings Advanced Group of the Italy-Hong Kong International Music Competition, champion of the Youth Free Program group from the 19th Osaka International Competition, champion of Viola group of Aegean Sea International Music Competition in Taiwan 2018, and champion of Okinawa International Music Competition in 2015.
Besides competitions, in May 2021, Chloe was selected as violin soloist and performed the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1, 3rd Movement in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall with the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra. In 2019, she also toured with the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra as violin soloist and performed in Russia and North Europe, including Finlandia Hall, Musikaliska and Capella in Russia. She was also selected as Music Ambassador by the HUB Hong Kong and performed for charity.
This summer, Chloe had completed the Curtis Mentor Network with Dr. Solomiya Ivakhiv, Head of Strings from the Curtis Institute of Music. Under the organization of the Yip’s Children’s Choral and Performing Arts Centre Instrumental Department, Chloe has had the opportunities to participate in the masterclasses of the Principal Guest Conductor of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Christoph Poppen, and renowned violinist Yang Xiaoyu, and was given much professional advice and guidance. In April 2021, Chloe was one of the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra members selected to join forces with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta to play in the world premiere of the opera Alice in Wonderland, which was a very enlightening experience for her.
Chloe currently serves as the concertmaster of the Diocesan Girls’ School String Orchestra and was awarded with scholarships of DGS Exhibition for Music in the academic year 2019 to 2021 She is also the concertmaster of the Hong Kong Young Soloists Symphony Orchestra as well as the concertmaster of the Beethoven Orchestra and was the concertmaster of the Mozart Orchestra in the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra.
Chloe Lui is a 15-year-old student from South Island School Y11. She has been receiving training under Mr. Calvin Wong since she was 9 years old.
She performed her first solo piece Haydn concerto in G major, first movement, under the accompaniment of the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra in 2017, and she also performed Mendelssohn’s violin concerto in E minor, 2nd movement in the Yips Instrumental Concert XI.
Thanks to Mr. Wong’s guidance, she obtained the Trinity ATCL diploma with distinction in 2017 and LTCL diplomas in the subsequent year. She has been awarded champions in competitions such as the Hong Kong School Music Festival and the Hong Kong Open Music Competition. Participating in the Osaka International Music Competition in 2019, she was awarded the Gold prize in Hong Kong Regionals and a Second runner-up in the final round.
Chloe performed Mendelsohnn concerto in E minor, first movement, in Prof. Christoph Poppen’s Masterclass as a performer in March of 2021 and benefited a great deal from it. In April 2021. She performed with Hong Kong Sinfonietta as a first violin player in the world premiere of Alice in Wonderland- an opera by Pierangelo Valitinoni, under the baton of Ms. Yip Wing-sie.
Chloe was the concertmaster of Marymount Primary and Secondary School. She is now a first violin player in the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra and 2nd violin Principal of the Hong Kong Young Soloist Chamber.
Hin Lung Leung is 10-year-old and started learning violin with Mr. Calvin Wong at the age of 4 at Yip’s Children’s Choral and Performing Arts Centre. He has attained ABRSM Grade 8 Violin with distinction in 2019.
Hin Lung has won many prizes including the Champion in Violin solo and Junior Violin Duet at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. He has been awarded with Beginner Violin Winner in the Fifth and the Sixth Hong Kong International Music Festival. In 2018 he won the Hong Kong Young Violinist Competition in Junior Violin Solo. In 2019 he won the First place under Western Instrument Scholarship Class Age 8 & below at the 12th HK Students Open Music Competition.
Hin Lung has performed as a soloist at 2019 and 2020 Yip’s Instrumental Sprouts Concert. In May 2021, he performed Mozart Violin Concerto No.3 2nd movement with the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra. Hin Lung is a member of the school orchestra.
Choy Trevor is thirteen years old and is studying Grade 8 at Diocesan Boys’ School in Hong Kong. Trevor has been learning violin under the tutelage of Mr. Calvin Wong since he was four years old. Trevor was selected as a soloist to perform in the 2015 Winter Concert and 2021 Yip’s Instrumental Concert XI with Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra.
When Trevor was ten years old, he firstly attained ATCL diploma in violin performance with distinction result from Trinity College, London. A year after, he attained LTCL diploma. Trevor has won various awards in string competition. In the 71st Inter-School Music Festival, he won both the viola solo junior group and the violin duo junior group champion.
Trevor has also served as the principal of the Senior String Orchestra and Senior Orchestra of Ying Wa Primary School. In 2018, Trevor joined the Vienna music tour with the Orchestra and won the Grand Prix award in the International Youth Music Festival at Slovakia and performed in numbers of European prestigious halls. Besides, Trevor also participated in the orchestra of Paula Tsui’s concert 2018.
Apart from above, Trevor has attended various master classes, including Janoska Ensemble, Professor Xiaoyu Yang, Professor Sergey Fatkulin, etc.
Trevor is currently a member of the Diocesan Boys’ School Orchestra and the Diocesan Boys’ Senior String Orchestra.
LI Yui Ching Enoch is a 17-year-old student studying at Diocesan Boys’ School (DBS) in Hong Kong, where he served as the Executive Officer of the Music Department, chairman and concertmaster of the Symphony Orchestra, and Second Violin Principal of the String Orchestra. Enoch has been learning the violin under the guidance of Mr Calvin Wong since he was six and has attained Diploma in Music Performance: Fellow of Trinity College London (FTCL) for Violin and Licentiate of Trinity College London (LTCL) for piano.
He has attended masterclasses taught by violinists such as Mr Kirill Troussov, Professor Xiaoyu Yang, Professor Ilya Grubert and Mr Fedor Rudin. He has also been chosen as a demonstrator in masterclasses by Professor Christoph Poppen, Professor Tianwa Yang, Mr Jing Wang and Mr Chai Liang.
Enoch has won various awards at Hong Kong and oversea competitions, including the champion of the 2021 Wilh. Steinberg Young Violinist Competition, champion of 1st Hong Kong International Young Musicians Competition, champion of the 2020 International Fringe Festival and Competition – Open class, 2nd prize at the Ysaye International Music Competition 2018 in Belgium, and was the champion of multiple categories from Hong Kong School Music Festival (HKSMF) in the past decade, including the 13 or under Violin Concerto Category in 2017, 19 or under Violin Concerto Category in 2018, and the Hong Kong Strings Open Class in 2019, etc.
Enoch received the full scholarship from the HKSMF in 2017 to attend the European Youth Summer Music (EYSM) at UK; there he served as the concertmaster of both the Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonia Orchestra and performed as the soloist with the Sinfonia Orchestra at the closing ceremony. In 2019, Enoch received the Grantham Music Award to attend the Austrian Master Class with full scholarship and he performed as a soloist during the closing ceremony. He was also the recipient of various DBS school scholarships.
Joining the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra in 2014, he made his solo debut in 2015, playing Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen. Since then, he has appeared as soloist with the orchestra in many prestigious halls including the Beijing Concert Hall, the Shanghai Oriental Art Centre, the Finlandia Hall, the Musikaliska and the Capella; as well as serving as the orchestra’s concertmaster. In 2018, he performed Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor with the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra. In 2020, he was invited to perform Butterfly Lovers’ Violin Concerto at the Greater Bay Symphony Orchestra Charity Concert.
As an avid orchestral musician, Enoch has played under the baton of world-renowned conductors such as Mr Kuokman Lio, Professor Neil Varon, Mr Kristjan Järvi, Professor Alexander Titov and Professor Jorma Panula; all of them greatly inspired him in conducting. In 2018, he began his conducting studies under the tutelage of Dr. Wai Hong Yip, and served as an assistant of HKCSO Haydn Orchestra from 2018-2019. Furthermore, he has received generous guidance from conductors such as Professor Tim Redmond and Mr Samuel Pang. In 2021, he co-founded the Hong Kong Youth Philharmonia, a fully student-led youth orchestra with 60 members, in which he made his debut conducting Sibelius’ Andante Festivo, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8.
