The HKYS Mendelssohn Chamber is catered for orchestral instrument players who have reached a standard equivalent to Grade 3 to Grade 7 of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. It aims to familiarise students with orchestral repertoire as well as to provide preliminary training in orchestral playing and sight-reading.The Chamber Orchestra may participate in our concert series.

The HKYS Paganini Chamber is catered for orchestral instrument players who have reached a standard equivalent to Grade 8 or above of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. It aims to familiarise students with orchestral repertoire as well as to provide intensive training in orchestral playing and sight-reading.The Chamber Orchestra will participate in our concert series, concert tour etc.

Students will demonstrate their playing skills through studying works from the standard Chamber Music repertoire for Strings, Woodwind or Brass instruments, and for combinations of instruments from these areas. The intention of the Chamber Music course is to foster the students’ musical sensitivities while developing the individual members’ leadership and communication skills.Through working together, members will gain increased musical experience and raise their level of individual technique and general musicianship. Opportunities for public of Chamber Music are available at the Academy. It is required that all members of each chamber music group should be studying at the same school. The application for a group to study Chamber Music should be submitted by one member of the group, who will be the designated representative of that particular Chamber Music group from that school. A limited number of group remissions will be offered on a merit basis.

Age:10-17 years old

Size: 3 to 6 students in a group

Session: 1.5 hour lessons over 2 semesters with a total of 40 weeks

Remark: Enrolled groups must submit their weekly rehearsal schedules

Divided into five levels, course designed to strengthen the basic techniques of students from courses HKYS110-112 and add as the compulsory course for them including but not limited to the following aspects:

Beginning Stage (Level 1-2)
• Key signatures and basic rhythms
• Basic Sight Reading skills
• Basic Posture

Intermediate Stage (Level 3-4)
• Various Instrumental techniques
• Selected Etude and Scales
• Tone production

Advance Stage (Level 5)
• Advance Instrumental techniques
• Advance Etudes or equivalents e.g. Paganini Caprice

Session: 1 hour per week on Saturday 40 lessons per year for each level, certificate will be issue to the graduates of each level , minimum 85% attendance requirement.
